Gov. Kathy Hochul is proposing that breakfast and lunch should be made available at no cost to all students in New York, regardless of family income. That’s a great move.
Most students in the state already have access to free school meals, including students in New York City, where free lunch and breakfast are provided to all students. The governor’s office estimates that her plan would extend free meals to another 300,000 students, which is no small thing.
