Nationwide, students of color account for nearly 60% of children facing hunger but are just above the income limit to qualify for free school meals. These kids are going hungry, performing worse in school, and have to face lifelong consequences of this achievement gap. Using state money to feed all New York kids would not only help our kids in the short term but better set them up for success for the rest of their lives.
